This type of insurance policy combines various insurance protections for common losses to a personal home, which can include losses occurring to your home, its contents, loss of use (extra cost associated with finding a place to live), or loss of your personal possessions, including liability insurance for accidents that may happen at the home or at the hands of the homeowner within the policy territory.

  • Coverage A – Dwelling Coverage
    Coverage A on your homeowners insurance insures the dwelling itself (not including the land). Renters insurance has no Coverage A, although it may have additional coverage for improvements that you make while you are a tenant.

    Coverage E on your home insurance policy covers damages which the insured is legally liable for and provides a legal defense that the insurer will pay for.  Dog bites are a common loss related to this coverage. Some carriers will exclude certain breeds of dogs. Make sure you have liability protection for your dog, regardless of their breed.
